We've been all about playing outside in the morning. We have had record breaking heat all month. Seriously...it hasn't been this hot since the 1950's. So, once we hit 11:00, we're pretty much inside, especially since the pools are all closed. Boo. Griff seems to mind the heat a lot less than I do, but he's been a good sport.

One Nap Down
Griff said goodbye to his morning nap this week. I know he may be a little old to take a morning nap, but he really has needed it. Recently, though, he hasn't been sleeping in the morning. I decided that it would be easier to deal with the transition before the new baby comes. But, let's just say it hasn't been the easiest week. As my mom always said when my brothers were extra-feisty or grumpy--it's a good thing he's cute.

28 Weeks
I was actually 29 weeks on Saturday! This pregnancy is flying by. I can't believe that we'll only be ten weeks from the due date this Saturday! We definitely need to start doing some preparations. But, we are oh so excited to meet this new little one.

Popsicle
Griffin ate his first popsicle yesterday. Really it was just his peach yogurt--frozen in rocket pop form. He was having a little difficulty figuring out how to eat it. Naturally, I had to get my own popsicle and show him how it's done.

Words
Griff has been trying out a lot of words, but tends to be stubborn about when he says them. We'll walk up to someone (like the cashier at the grocery), that someone will say, "hello" and I will tell Griff to say, "hi." He'll give them an incredibly blank stare. As we walk away..."HI!"
Two nights ago, the weather finally permitted Griff and I to join Jose at a soccer game. One of the girls from Jose's work walked up to us to say hello. We went through the typical routine. Griff looked at her and said, "hi." It was the sweetest little hello. Jose almost cried. Seriously. I get to enjoy most of Griffin's developments, since I'm at home with him most of the day. Jose often gets to experience the grumpy end-of-day Griff. Or...the busy, running around town all weekend Griff. It's especially delightful to him when our son reveals some new trick or aspect of his personality around him. It reminds me to appreciate all that I get to be a part of between the hours of 7 and 5.
Griff's favorite word right now has to be "Dada." Any time I touch my phone, he thinks I must be calling Dada. When our washing machine starts up, he thinks Dada is opening the garage door. When I open his bedroom door in the morning, he asks where Dada is. He just loves his Dada.

Easter
We had a nice, relaxing Easter weekend around here. After Jose had to work on Saturday, we were so thankful for a day to wake up together, go to church and play at home. Griffin was pretty excited to find the colorful "balls" hidden in the living room after his nap. But, then he got distracted by his awesome new puzzle from Muffy and Skippy.

Jose's Birthday and Time to Play
It's always such fun to plan a special week for Jose in April. This year we had a family cookout the weekend before his birthday and a candlelit dinner on his actual birthday. I love this man.
A few photos from our weekend of play.

Happy Boy
I was planning on heading out to the museum or library today after morning nap. Other than music class yesterday, we've been at home a lot for the past week. Griff has been a grump. True, he hasn't been feeling well and we've done a lot of snuggling. But, the days are just so much longer when he's upset with everything. Today is a new day! He is actually happily playing. I think we're just going to stay here and enjoy climbing on and off the furniture reading our books and playing with the neglected toys. I just love when he's happy.

Virginia
One of the best things about being a stay-at-home mom is the flexibility. Especially when you need to travel cross-country to meet a sweet, little, brand-new nephew. I am so thankful that I was able to fly to Virginia to spend time with Lily and Finn, hang out with Court and Ry, and meet Crosby. As a bonus, I got to see my parents for a day and a half, as well.
Another truly precious Smith baby. Love him!

The Most Important Photos of the Week
It's been an emotional week for all those who love the Smith family. But, it is also a week of great joy. We are so happy that Crosby is here. We are so thankful he is such a fighter. And, we are so excited to know him. Grow, Crosby, grow!

Pesto...presto
Gone. That's all I can say about how Griff felt about pesto pasta. He chowed it. It was his first time eating pesto and I was a little unsure about how he'd feel about it. Courtney had inspired me to try giving to him when she blogged about how much her kids adore it and devour it. So, I followed her advice and made an alternative pesto...no basil or pine nuts. Mine was arugula, parm, walnuts, salt, pepper and olive oil. Mmm. Tiny, green pieces of pasta were everywhere...hair, chair, floor, table.
So, my blogger and aperture weren't getting along last week...these are my photos from the last week and a half.
Griff still wearing Christmas pajamas, playing in his table house. We keep it folded up in the laundry room...it's a smidge wrinkly.
He's been pulling the cushions and pillows off our living room furniture. At first, I thought he was going to make himself room to sit on the actual furniture. He just wanted a reading cushion.
The seeds are planted safely in their trays. I'm so excited for our consistently warm weather. The garden beds just look so ready to be worked. Thanks to my friend, Laura, for introducing me to leeks. I love them now and am trying to grow them for the first time.
Today Griff and I played outside in the front yard. He was walking and crawling all over the place. Then, I discovered that our yard is covered in goose poop. This resulted in prompt removal of Griffin's clothes and washing of hands. Isn't he adorable mostly naked?

Eating
I think we're a little behind on teaching Griff to eat with utensils. I really don't mind messes, but he's just so good with finger food. Is a spoon really necessary? Well, yes, I suppose.
What can I say? The boy likes to eat. The spoon was holding him back.

This and Last
Oh, to celebrate! Griff and I had the pleasure of joining my siblings and fifty of my dad's closest friends for his 60th surprise party. He was truly surprised and overjoyed that we were all there. It was great fun!

And, of course, we had some fun little cousin time. Isn't Finn just the cutest?
It's always a little sad to leave all my siblings, but Griffin and I were so happy to see Jose and be at home. He's been working hard on his walking and talking. I think he's hilarious in his jeans!

Airplanes and Automobiles
Griff is loving his plane and his cars right now. We often have airplanes fly over our house and he always starts waving his hand in the air and making his version of plane noises. (That's what he's doing below.) He was given several vehicles for his birthday, which he now races around the living room. I love to watch him in action. And, in case you're wondering, he's sitting on top of our ottoman. He figured out how to remove the cushion, so he could climb up on top of it. I think we're in trouble.
